Arne Slot will be keen to stamp his authority on Liverpool this summer, despite inheriting an already-talented squad from Jurgen Klopp. The Feyenoord boss has revealed that he is keen to take over at Anfield over the summer, and he may already have one eye on who he would like to sign. Express Sport takes a look at how the Dutchman’s Liverpool team could line up in the 2024/25 campaign…

Alisson Becker

It is hard to imagine any new manager snubbing the opportunity to work with Alisson. The Brazil international remains one of the best in the business and is capable of playing out from the back with ease. A goalkeeper signing may be required though, with Caoimhin Kelleher attracting interest from around Europe.

Defence: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Willian Pacho, Rayan Ait-Nouri

A left-footed centre-back is likely to remain a transfer priority for Liverpool this summer, with Joel Matip set to depart as a free agent. Eintracht Frankfurt star Pacho has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer and he could be the ideal partner for Van Dijk.

With Andrew Robertson not getting any younger and being one of Klopp’s stalwarts, a left-back signing should not be ruled out. Slot has often favoured fullbacks who can step into midfield or bomb forward and impact play in the final third, and Wolves’ Ait-Nouri could fit the bill for his demands in that role as a result.

Midfield: Alexis Mac Allister, Mats Wieffer; Dominik Szoboszlai

Although Liverpool underwent a midfield rebuild over the summer, they still haven't found a player to complement Mac Allister. Slot may therefore push to reunite with Feyenoord’s Wieffer at Anfield, with the holding midfielder being a stalwart in his current side and surprisingly slipping under the radar of top clubs.

The 24-year-old would not be a cheap signing for the Reds but is capable of being the final piece of the puzzle in midfield, with Szoboszlai likely to be utilised as a No. 10. Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo can provide depth, with Thiago Alcantara being offloaded.

Mohamed Salah

Forwards: Harvey Elliott, Viktor Gyokeres, Diogo Jota

Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz have both been linked with moves away from Liverpool and selling the duo would raise the funds for a much-needed striker signing.

It has emerged that Klopp was the driving force behind Darwin Nunez’s arrival on Merseyside, and his performances of late may struggle to convince Slot that he is the right man to lead the line for his side.

A traditional striker could be eyed, and Sporting’s Gyokeres remains one of the best available options and could be the marquee signing to indicate a changing of the guard – a move which Michael Edwards has not shied away from previously. The Sweden international would be a costly acquisition but a long-term investment.
