Wor Flags explain brilliant Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton message as Newcastle duo 'honoured'

Wor Flags pulled out all the stops for Newcastle United duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton

Newcastle United’s Brazilian stars have been honoured in a heartfelt display by Wor Flags.

Before the game with Sheffield United at St James’ Park, the supporters’ group decorated the Gallowgate in a stand wide Brazilian flag and accompanied it with the quote: ‘From Alianca and Rio to Newcastle Upon Tyne, a home away from home. Joelinton and Bruno, our Brazilian Geordies.’

The message was written out in Portuguese as well as English. The group were keen to point out that the display was as much about paying thanks to Joelinton as it was honouring Bruno. The former Hoffenheim star signed a new four-year-deal earlier this month.

A spokesman for the fan group said: “It’s long overdue. Following the announcement of Joelinton’s new contract, we felt we had to honour him.

“Bruno’s ever presence in a completely depleted team this season has been massive and is a huge reason we are in the fight for Europe. He is absolutely pivotal to this football club, and we desperately hope he stays.

“It made sense to honour them both together, so that they know how much they are loved, and in peak Wor Flags fashion, we’ve gone massive with it.”

Joelinton has been sidelined with a quadricep issue he picked up in the FA Cup win over Sunderland back in January. Bruno has been a permanent fixture in Eddie Howe's side this season but speculation persists over a move elsewhere in the summer.

The former Lyon star has a £100m release clause but suitors only have until June 30 to activate it.
