Leeds United’s automatic promotion hopes took a major dent on Friday night as they were dismantled 4-0 by Queens Park Rangers.

The Whites were embarrassed from start to finish in the capital with two goals in either half enough to cap off comfortably the worst result and performance of the season.

It became apparent pretty quickly that Leeds were not at the races and it did not take long to be punished, as Ilias Chair’s long-ranged effort deflected in off Joe Rodon.

Lucas Andersen then doubled QPR’s advantage midway through the first half and though Leeds huffed and puffed in parts either side of the break, the game was over when Lyndon Dykes scrambled in a corner.

Sam Field then capped off a humiliating evening for Leeds by adding a fourth, the second of which from a set-piece, despite QPR being one of the worst sides in the division at both attacking and defending those situations.

Having beaten Middlesbrough 4-3 at the Riverside on Monday, Leeds should’ve been full of confidence heading into this one.

Patrick Bamford’s omission was not enough of a reason for such a drastic drop in performance, even if his replacement Joel Piroe did produce one of the worst ever individual displays seen in a Leeds shirt.

Leeds now find themselves in a position where the top two may now not even go to the final day, and so supporters are understandably fuming at what they just saw.

And speaking on BBC Radio Leeds at full-time, journalist Jonathan Buchan has shared exactly how they reacted in the ground as the players approached the away end.

He said: “Leeds players standing in the penalty area, looking towards the couple of 100 fans who remained. Again, a pretty angry response from them, arms held out wide by many in that top tier, asking, ‘What was that?’

“That’s the big question. What was that? Quite a few doing hand gestures, geeing them up, trying to gee them up, that’s those that are left. The majority have left, as Liam Cooper comes out and slaps a few hands and pats a few players on the back and then walks back away to that far side. Daniel Farke came over and had a little chat with Archie Gray.”

12 months on from Bournemouth, Leeds in the same position

Almost exactly 12 months to the day, Leeds were beaten 4-1 at Bournemouth in a game that was absolutely crucial to the Premier League relegation battle.

As seen by the scoreline, Leeds were embarrassed that day and received an extremely hostile reaction from the travelling supporters.

Somehow, Leeds managed to find themselves in the exact same position last night, but perhaps given the nature of the opponents, this was more embarrassing.

Victor Orta and Javi Gracia both lost their jobs as a result of that, and though Farke certainly won’t be sacked, doubts will certainly be rising over his capability in the job.
