Newcastle absolutely must not sell ‘exceptional’ £6m player this summer, it would be a big mistake

Ahead of a summer of change, there are some players who Newcastle United should sell, and there are some who they should not.

It is clear that the Magpies do need to move some players on, especially given the club’s delicate situation regarding profit and sustainability. It stopped Newcastle United from making any new signings in January, and it could also prove to be problematic this summer.

Players like Miguel Almiron look likely to leave St James’ Park at the end of the season, while Callum Wilson is another major name who could be on course to call time on his Newcastle United career.

Some fan favourites could be on their way out, with some difficult decisions needing to be made.

But every decision will be made with an eye towards the future, which means retaining Newcastle United’s current stars, and those who have the potential to become just that.

Who Newcastle United must not sell this summer

Bruno Guimaraes is the biggest star on Tyneside right now. He has a £100million release clause that makes the Magpies vulnerable, but the hope is that no one will activate it.

As for Alexander Isak, he has spoke about wanting to stay at Newcastle United, while Eddie Howe is looking to build his team around the super Swede.

Bruno and Isak, along with Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon, are the spine of Newcastle’s future, and should be going absolutely nowhere this summer.

That is also the case for the young players who have the potential to reach the next level, such as new local hero Lewis Miley. He is already a star in black and white, and the midfielder could save us millions of pounds in the future.

Newcastle teenager should not be for sale

So could Yankuba Minteh, which is why a new report about the 19-year-old is somewhat concerning.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United could sell Minteh this summer.

The Gambia international is currently on loan at Feyenoord, who he joined immediately after his £6million move to Newcastle.

Minteh is expected to play a part in Newcastle’s pre-season plans, with Eddie Howe keen to cast his eye over the teenager who has made a major impression in the Eredivisie.

That is why talk of him being sold is very strange, and it would be a major mistake if Toon officials do decide to cash in after just one year.

Newcastle must give Yankuba Minteh a chance in the Premier League

Not much was known about Minteh when Newcastle announced his signing last year. But the fact he was immediately loaned to a club as big as Feyenoord was an early indication of his talent.

And the longer Minteh has spent on loan with the Rotterdam club, the more excited Toon fans have become to see him play at St James’ Park.

He has enjoyed a really impressive spell with Feyenoord, and his numbers are very good. Minteh has made 33 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists.

The teenager has been described as ‘exceptional‘ by his teammates, and the hope is that he can replicate his form in England. It is his dream to play in the Premier League, and he should get that opportunity next season.

Cashing in now would be a major mistake, as it feels like Minteh is already poised to make a splash in black and white. He was signed with the view to playing for the first-team, and he is probably ready earlier than anticipated.

With Almiron possibly leaving, Newcastle will need a winger. They may already have his replacement in Minteh, with the youngster actually comparing himself to Miggy during an interview last year. And with funds set to be tight, having a readymade replacement is perfect in the era of PSR.

The only reason Newcastle should cash in now is if they receive a monster offer, or if they already have reason to believe he is not destined to succeed on Tyneside.

But the latter would be hard to believe given his Feyenoord form, and it will be a real surprise if Newcastle call time on Minteh’s Toon career before it has properly begun.
