Newcastle United got back to winning ways on Saturday.

Eddie Howe’s side were not at their best during their Premier League clash with Sheffield United but ended up cruising to a 5-1 victory.

With Manchester United drawing with Burnley, it feels particularly important in the race for Europa League qualification come the end of the season.

Indeed, Newcastle are just a point off the Red Devils ahead of their trip to Old Trafford later this month.

Just like the win over Fulham earlier this month, Howe’s side did not start particularly well against the Blades.

Still, it was – as ever – Alexander Isak who saved the day and got them up and running after the visitors scored an early goal.

The striker has been in fine form all season and later bagged a second too, breaking Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s record of 17 goals scored by a Swede in a Premier League season.

Isak, this season, has been hailed as a “generational talent” by some and continues to dazzle teammates with his record.

Indeed, Clinton Morrison was particularly impressed.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday at 15:28 on 27/04/2024, the former Republic of Ireland striker said: “Ah, he is some player, by the way.

“His movement for the goal is fantastic, when you see this. He sucks the defender in and he spins in behind, and the run is fantastic. The ball from Murphy is brilliant as well. Once he gets into that position, it’s still a difficult finish. He makes it look easy. What a finish! He is a top, top player.”

Alexander Isak could genuinely win the Golden Boot this season

Isak is just one behind Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer in the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, with 19 goals to their 20.

With games against Burnley, Brighton, Man Utd and Brentford coming up, the forward will surely be confident of significantly adding to his tally before the season is up.

To potentially win the Golden Boot is a pretty remarkable achievement for a player who has been consistently blighted by injuries.

In the form of his life right now, it’s vitally important Newcastle keep Isak.
