Gary Neville has now admitted that he’s been amazed by two Tottenham Hotspur players under Ange Postecoglou’s stewardship this season.

Tottenham aren’t quite at their highest point right now, it almost feels as if Ange Postecoglou’s first season is meandering to a close.

There is still so much on line the, given fifth place is far from guaranteed to be a Champions League spot, and Spurs do have some huge fixtures to come.

But the same defensive or even midfield mistakes are beginning to take their toll on fan’s belief, even if Postecoglou’s first season has still been a success.

Right now, the Tottenham boss will surely just be doing everything he can to get through to the summer with a Champions League spot secured.

That’s not to say he’ll abandon his playing philosophy when chasing those results, he’s not that kind of manager, but similarly Postecoglou will recognise the importance of these games.

All that being said, Gary Neville has been applauding how the Tottenham boss has been using both Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie in a recent chat with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Speaking on The Overlap, the pundit was discussing the role of the modern full-back with Trent, and namechecked both Porro and Udogie for their work this season.

Gary Neville admitted he couldn’t do what the Tottenham pair were doing these days, saying he ‘wouldn’t survive’.

He explained: “I always think now in some ways, if I could time travel and move forward, I think every team when I watch the full-backs it’s starting to mesmerise me.

“I think how would I have even survived. I say this, how would I have even survived today and forget you, you’re a freak with the way you pass the ball but I watch Porro go into midfield and Udogie and you see what Stones is doing when he goes into midfield and Kyle has to tuck in but go back out again.

“My job was really simple, if my left-back went forward I’m tucking round. If he went forward, he tucked round.”

Ange Postecoglou still needs his midfield to catch up

Right now it feels as if all of Postecoglou’s back line have nailed their new manager’s demands.

Yes, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero made individual errors on Saturday, but they were positioned as they should be.

Similarly, Tottenham’s full-backs were exactly where they should have been in different phases of play.

But at times, both Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur looked lost.

They were pressing so high up the field, as they are expected to, but didn’t then put sufficient pressure on the ball.

Certainly one to ponder for Postecoglou, and it shouldn’t just necessarily be seen as something that needs to be fixed in the transfer window.

All that being said, James Maddison looked very frustrated with a different Tottenham player on Saturday.
