Thomas Frank gives two-word Ivan Toney update after Arsenal transfer hint

Ivan Toney has been linked with a move away from Brentford this summer with Arsenal reportedly interested in the England striker

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has firmly stated that there is "no price" set for star striker Ivan Toney, amidst swirling transfer rumours linking him with Arsenal and Chelsea.

The England forward, who made a comeback from a lengthy suspension in January, has been the subject of transfer speculation since his impressive 20-goal haul in the Premier League last season. Ahead of Brentford's showdown with Everton on Saturday, Frank emphasised Toney's quality and confirmed that no specific fee has been decided for his potential departure in the upcoming transfer window.

He said: "You should ask Phil (Giles, director of football) and Matthew (Benham, owner) about that because they will be even better to answer that question. I'm pretty sure the answer will be that there is no price.

"I think it's all about the narrative. If you can score five goals in five then suddenly your price is through the roof. If a striker performs consistently over time then there is a good price.

"I know Ivan is a good player and he's proven that many times. Last season he was fantastic, he made his full England debut and I think he's a very good player."

Toney was notably absent from Brentford's recent 5-1 triumph over Luton at Kenilworth Road, leading Frank to suggest that this could be a glimpse into a future without their key forward. When asked if his starting XI resembled a "post-Ivan Toney Brentford", Frank responded, "Yes, potentially."

Brentford's manager highlighted Toney's situation adding: "Let's see what's happening with Ivan, he's a Brentford player but I think it is important to see the quality we have in the squad."

Arsenal have been lacking a recognised centre-forward this season and it is understood Mikel Arteta will be on the search for a striker in the summer. Unsurprisingly, Toney's name has been linked with the club and the forward has already hinted at a move to a side such as Arsenal, having stated his desire to sign for a "top six" team.
