Gary Neville was left unimpressed with one Tottenham Hotspur player at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham were looking to bounce back with a positive performance at Liverpool today following consecutive London derby defeats.

Ange Postecoglou’s men endured a nightmare first half at Anfield following a positive opening few minutes.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the Reds before Andy Robertson doubled their lead right before halftime.

Salah’s opener was particularly poor from Spurs’ point of view as Emerson Royal was caught ball-watching at the back post.

It was Cody Gakpo who picked out Salah and the Egyptian’s header crept past Guglielmo Vicario at the Italian’s near post.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, Neville singled out Vicario for criticism following Salah’s opener at Anfield.

“That’s his 18th goal of the season and that’s a helluva statistic,” the Manchester United legend said. “He timed the run to perfection.

“For me, the goalkeeper should do better – but take nothing away from Salah, he’s a goalscoring great.”

Vicario has faced plenty of criticism in recent weeks due to Tottenham’s vulnerability from set-piece situations. But it wasn’t set-pieces that troubled Spurs today and Vicario dealt with that aspect of the game fairly well.

However, the £17 million man arguably should have done better with Salah’s header. The effort was straight at Vicario at his near post and he failed to keep it out despite getting a hand to it.

Liverpool vs Tottenham

Following a disappointing first half for Spurs, things got worse after the break as Gakpo and Harvey Elliott added to Liverpool’s tally before the hour mark.

Postecoglou decided the change things up after seeing his side go four down as he introduced James Maddison and Richarlison.

The latter popped up with his fourth goal at Anfield in the 72nd minute before Heung-min Son grabbed another back for Spurs just five minutes later.

Much like the defeat against Arsenal last weekend, it proved to be too little too late for Tottenham despite their best efforts in the final 30 minutes of the game.
