A number of Tottenham Hotspur players have come under criticism since their 4-0 defeat against Newcastle United on Saturday.

St James’ Park is proving to be a terrible away ground for Spurs, isn’t it?

The North Londoners suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat at Newcastle last season, and they just let in four goals without reply this time around.

Ange Postecoglou has a lot to think about, and he has now been advised to change one of his players’ positions.

Heung-min Son lacks discipline to play in one position

There have been a lot of positions for Tottenham to take this season.

After a disastrous campaign last time out, Spurs struck gold with Ange Postecoglou, and the Australian has done a terrific job over the last eight months.

One of the biggest challenges Postecoglou faced was replacing Harry Kane.

The England captain left Tottenham and moved to Bayern Munich just days before the start of the new Premier League season.

Postecoglou boldly decided against signing a replacement for Kane, and instead pushed skipper Heung-min Son to a number nine position.

The South Korean has done very well almost every time he has played there. He has scored 15 goals and provided nine assists this season, which is an excellent return.

However, Son playing down the middle has forced Postecoglou to use Timo Werner on the left, and the German has come under a ton of criticism.

Jay Bothroyd has now claimed that Richarlison, who had a terrible season last time out, is now a part of Tottenham’s best XI as a striker because Son ‘doesn’t have that discipline’ to play in that role.

The pundit said on The Optus Sport Football Podcast: “When Richarlison was playing, he was great for Tottenham, I’m sorry.

“I said this earlier on in the season – if he can start being disciplined in the middle, he will score goals because he is good in the air, he gets them ugly goals, them tap-ins, he can score a great goal – I think Tottenham have missed that.

“Now you’re playing Son up front – he’s a great player but he doesn’t have that discipline where he is going to stay between the two defenders because a player of his ability wants to get involved in the game.

“That’s why I feel, Tottenham don’t have their strongest side. Richarlison is in that strongest eleven now.”

Surprise Richarlison stat shows he should start as Tottenham’s striker

Richarlison isn’t highly rated by everyone, but he can be a really dangerous player for Tottenham if he is used in the right way.

The Brazilian has scored 10 goals for Spurs this season, nine of which came in the space of eight games in a truly incredible in December and January.

Heung-min Son has done well for Tottenham up front, but if you look at minutes taken per goal scored, Richarlison, surprisingly, comes out on top when he plays as a striker.

The former Everton man averages a goal every 117.3 minutes in the Premier League as a number nine, while Son averages a goal every 132.41 minutes.

Once Richarlison is back from his injury, we expect him to start up front with Son moved to the side. Timo Werner, on the other hand, will have to drop to the bench.
