Lucas Vazquez returned to Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 after a season at Espanyol and has not moved since. In principle, this will not change for the coming campaign. His contract expires this summer and, according to Melchor Ruiz reports on the 'COPE' channel, the 'Merengues' board have an offer of one more season in hand, a dynamic that continues with players over the age of 30.

When the versatile winger left Real Madrid a decade ago, he did so in a transfer in which the Santiago Bernabeu offices reserved an option to buy him back. It is thanks to this option that he returned to the capital and committed himself for five seasons. Since then, he has only signed one extension, the one that tied him to the club until 2024, so the one in the pipeline will be the second.

The Galician's great performance in 'El Clasico' against Barcelona this weekend has made this an ideal moment to reach an agreement with him. It has already emerged that Nacho Fernandez is opting to leave Carlo Ancelotti's squad in favour of a new stage in some project in the United States, but, for the moment, nothing is known in the public sphere about what his team-mate wants in the medium and long term.

In principle, he is seen to be totally committed to the current Real Madrid, where he is held in the highest esteem for his role in the dressing room and his acceptance of a secondary role capable of adapting to any situation. The best reflection of this is how he adapted to a right-back position that was not his role, but an alternative in the face of a period of defensive losses that plagued the club in 2020 and which, curiously, is now being reprised.
