Building an all-time Premier League XI isn’t easy.
There are some players that are absolute shoo-ins in most people’s teams – Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole and Cristiano Ronaldo, but there are a number of other positions that are very debatable.
Perhaps the toughest position to pick is at right-back.
Indeed, throughout the history of the Premier League there haven’t been a litany of standout right-backs – at the age of 25, Trent Alexander-Arnold is already in this discussion.
Speaking to Mail Sport, Cesc Fabregas has been building his all-time Premier League XI, and despite being an Arsenal and Chelsea legend, the Spaniard picked a former Tottenham player in this position.
Fabregas named Kyle Walker in his greatest Premier League team ever.
“Ashley Cole, John, Terry, Rio Ferdinand and at right-back I’m going to go with Kyle Walker,” Fabregas said.
There’s a lot to be said about Kyle Walker as a player, but whether you like him or not, you have to admit that he’s going down as a legend of the game.
He’s been so consistent for so long now, and while he’s collected his trophies and forged his legacy at Manchester City, he was equally as brilliant for Tottenham for a long time.
Walker may not have the technical ability of an Alexander-Arnold, but as a physical force, there may not be a player in Premier League history who has the mix of speed and strength that Walker has.
The right-back has been so pivotal to Manchester City’s success over the years and you can count on one hand the number of wingers who have given Walker a difficult test down that right wing.
Fabregas may be right, Walker belongs in the all-time Premier League XI.
