Arsenal are setting up a grandstand finish in the Premier League title race, winning their fourth game in a row on Saturday.

The Gunners ran out 3-0 winners over Bournemouth, with Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice netting at the Emirates Stadium.

There’s no doubt that Arsenal are a world away from the team that Mikel Arteta inherited back in 2019.

The Gunners were a shadow of their former selves, struggling to even make top four for a number of years.

Now, Arsenal have challenged for the Premier League title for two seasons in a row, and reached the Champions League quarter-finals this year.

Obviously there’s still work to do, and the summer transfer window could well see Arteta and Edu look for the missing pieces of the jigsaw.

A prolific centre-forward is likely to be high on the Arsenal wish-list, as they don’t currently have an out-and-out No. 9.

Now, a report from Portugal has claimed that one of the most in-form strikers in the world is actively looking to join the Gunners.

According to Correio de Manha (print edition, 4/5/2024, pg. 11), Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres is eager to join a major European club this summer.

He is reportedly pushing to join Arsenal from Sporting, and is apparently desperate to impress Gunners scouts during the final few games of the season.

Viktor Gyokeres would be an incredible signing for Arsenal

If the report is true, then it’s a huge boost for Arsenal, as Gyokeres has been on fire this season.

The 25-year-old has registered a staggering 40 goals and 15 assists from just 46 Sporting outings this term.

It’s not often you see a player have more goal contributions than games played, and in a fairly decent league too.

In addition, Gyokeres has experience of English football, having been on the books at Brighton and impressing for Coventry City between 2021 and 2023.

With that in mind, Arsenal should certainly consider paying the reported £85million release clause to bring the “complete” forward to the Emirates.
