Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was seemingly unhappy with his manager Jürgen Klopp during the Reds' 2-2 draw with West Ham United, with the pair having a heated exchange during the second half.

The Egyptian was being prepared to come on in place of Luis Díaz when Salah and Klopp were arguing. Darwin Núñez appeared to try and step in to cool the situation down.

Post-match, Klopp refused to be drawn on what was said and what the argument was about. "We have already spoken in the dressing room and for me, that’s done," the Liverpool manager said.

Walking through the mixed zone post-match, Salah was asked by reporters to stop and chat. But he declined the opportunity with a simple message as he made it clear he did not want to add fuel to the situation.

"If I speak today there will be fire," he said, via The Athletic's James Pearce.

This is unlikely to be the last we hear of the incident, however. Salah was left on the bench for the second time in a week after failing to impress midweek against Everton at Goodison Park.

And there is inevitably chatter about his future this summer, when he — like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold — will only have 12 months left on his contract at Anfield.

"There is a real discussion for the new manager about what the future holds for Mo Salah — it's the first time we've asked that question. He only has a year to go on his contract," Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher said live on Sky Sports after the Reds' Merseyside derby defeat.

"He's looked a shadow of himself for a lot of this season but especially since he's come back from injury. He is Liverpool's legend, superstar, one of the all-time greats. But he's been so far off it."

Liverpool will have a new manager next season with Dutch coach Arne Slot set to come in to replace Klopp. The Feyenoord boss will inherit a very good group of players but there are some issues to be sorted out.
