Man Utd have held the first meeting of the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force as they look to redevelop their home stadium.

Manchester United chief operating officer Collette Roche visited Real Madrid to take a look at their iconic stadium a week before the first meeting of the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force.

The Daily Mail revealed Roche was initially spotted by Man City fans flying back from their Champions League quarter-final in Madrid last week, before it was learned that the purpose of her visit was to take a look at the recently remodelled Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid spent an estimated $1billion on renovating their legendary home, which saw the addition of a retractable roof, a steel facade, terraces surrounding the stadium on top of the stands and a new pitch removal and storage system.

Roche will have no doubt returned to Manchester with plenty of inspiration for United's own stadium plans, with the Ineos Group still considering a number of various options to transform their home ground.

Her visit to the Spanish capital came a week before Lord Seb Coe chaired the first meeting of the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force, which will consider what to do next with the redevelopment of Old Trafford.

"Yesterday, I chaired the first meeting of the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force to kick off a conversation about how development of a world-class football stadium for the north of England can deliver social and economic benefits for the region," Coe said on Tuesday. “At the London 2012 Olympics, I saw first-hand how sport can be a powerful driver of urban regeneration and I am excited to be part of this project.

"This meeting marked the start of a multi-stakeholder process to explore options for the stadium and surrounding area. We are at the start of this journey, and it is too soon to know where it will lead. But we will consult closely with fans and local residents along the way, and keep everyone informed of progress."

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s current preference is to build a new stadium for the club rather than redevelop the existing structure.
