Up-and-coming young tactical mind Cesc Fabregas has spoken out on the West Ham managerial situation after what he’s heard.

The world and its wife has been linked with the West Ham job in recent weeks and months.

That has ramped up considerably following West Ham’s 5-2 defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.

David Moyes is now looking likely to leave the Hammers with his contract up this summer.

The likes of Ruben Amorim, Julen Lopetegui, Thomas Tuchel and a host of others have been linked.

Indeed Amorim and and Lopetegui are even said to have held talks with the West Ham hierarchy.

Moyes’ future beyond this season has been the subject of division among Hammers fans for some time.

But four wins in 21 games in 2024 – with last season’s near disastrous Premier League campaign also still in the back of many minds – has seen those supporters championing the Scot and continuity dwindle.

West Ham fans craving a more dynamic approach

Despite the manager’s brilliant achievements in the last four years, a growing section of fans crave a more progressive, expansive style and approach.

Those calling for change and many pundits and journalists have repeatedly warned West Ham fans to be careful what they wish for over the manager.

Even today supporters were labelled ‘luddites’ by Simon Jordan for wanting Moyes to be replaced.

But it seems one of the young, up-and-coming managerial minds understands where that section of the Hammers faithful is coming from.

Cesc Fabregas has spoken out on the West Ham managerial situation after what he’s heard.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea star has been cutting his coaching teeth at Italian side Como.

And he has spoken about the situation surrounding Moyes and West Ham’s talks with Amorim.

Fabregas says he knows the situation well because he has friends who are big West Ham fans.

“I have a couple of friends that are big, big West Ham supporters and sometimes I ask the question, ‘Why do you guys attack David Moyes so much when he’s getting the right results?” Fabregas told the Planet Premier League podcast.

“Last year they won a European cup, they were fighting for Europe up until not long ago and having good results. They said ‘we love him for the results, but we don’t like him because of the style’, and he says ‘we are unwatchable’. These are the words sometimes that they use, which I cannot really say anything because I’m not someone to judge this as I don’t watch them week in, week out.

“But I think this is the only thing they complain (about). I said, ‘Yeah, but what do you prefer? To play good football and not get the results? Or to play football that suits him and get the results?’, because at the end of the day, where is the line?

“Someone else will come and will start playing very good football but they will not win games and then they will be complaining at the other thing. He (Moyes) has been successful… I respect (him) a lot for what he’s done in football and for the man that I know he is.”

This is the usual drivel thrown at West Ham fans along with those immortal words ‘be careful what you wish for’.

Why would having an attack-minded coach automatically mean West Ham would not get results or struggle at the wrong end of the table.

A completely nonsensical argument

It’s a completely nonsensical argument.

Why can Spurs, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Brighton and now even the likes of Palace and Bournemouth have a manager who plays positive, attacking football but West Ham can’t?

It’s ridiculous to state West Ham, a club built on entertaining football, can now only survive by playing a risk averse, defensive, low possession strategy.

And it is all the more surprising coming from Fabregas, who has always painted himself as a football purist as a player and coach.
