Dele Alli has claimed he had a ‘telepathic’ understanding with one of his former Tottenham Hotspur teammates.

We’ve seen some excellent partnerships at Tottenham over the years but none stand above Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

The duo currently hold the Premier League record for combined goals as they linked up 47 times during their time at Spurs together.

Of course, Kane has since moved on but the duo formed part of the best Spurs side we’ve seen over the past 20 years.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham challenged for the league title on two occasions and even reached a Champions League final back in 2019.

While Kane and Son were undoubtedly key for Spurs at the time, Dele Alli was also a player who provided in the final third regularly.

At the peak of his powers, he netted 21 times and provided 10 assists during the 2016-17 campaign.

And his partnership with Christian Eriksen was a huge reason behind his excellent record in front of goal.

Dele on his ‘telepathic’ understanding with Christian Eriksen

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Dele discussed his partnership with Eriksen.

“This is where it started and took off [Spurs win over Chelsea where Dele scored],” he said. “Every time he got the ball I would know it was coming in with quality and where to run. It was like telepathic.

“It was my trademark run in behind and I know certain players who would look and play that ball. A lot of the time the ball came with quality.”

Eriksen left Spurs back in January 2020 as he completed a £17 million switch to Inter Milan.

The Dane was exceptional during his time at Tottenham and was often the player to pick out Dele’s trademark runs in behind opposition defences.

Why isn’t Dele playing at Everton?

Of course, Dele has endured a tough period following his exit from Tottenham as he opened up on his battle with addiction and mental health last year.

The former Spurs star is yet to play a single minute for Everton this season as he’s been sidelined with an injury.

With his contract set to expire this summer, Dele looks set to leave Goodison Park and he admitted last night that he wants to remain in the Premier League.
