Richard Keys has claimed that Arsenal have made a big mistake in recent weeks which nobody is talking about.

Mikel Arteta’s side suffered their first Premier League defeat since the turn of the year on Sunday.

Aston Villa ended Arsenal’s run of 10 wins from their last 11 games with a 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

The result leaves the Gunners two points off the pace in the race for the title, with Pep Guardiola’s men out in front.

Manchester City are renowned for strong finishes to the season and following Sunday’s results, Liverpool and Arsenal will likely have to be flawless for the last six games.

But while many will view the Villa result as the turning point should Arsenal miss out on the title, Richard Keys has a different opinion.

Keys on Arsenal’s big mistake

Writing in his latest blog post, Keys explained why he believes the draw at City just over two weeks ago could cost Arsenal the title.

“If Arsenal don’t win the title now everybody will look back on the Villa defeat as the day it was lost,” he said. “I don’t agree. I think they lost it at Man City.

“They had City by the throat that day. They were the better side, but failed to take advantage of their superiority.

“I’ve previously said they looked scared to win it – not lose it. There’s a huge difference between those two mind sets.”

Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City’s fixtures compared

Despite a disappointing result on Sunday, Arsenal remain firmly in the mix for the title.

City have their fate in their own hands but this season has produced some shock results.

Guardiola’s men still face a difficult trip to Tottenham as well as a clash at Brighton.

Arteta will have to pick his players up quickly and ensure Arsenal are in a position to capitalise should City slip up.
