Manchester United’s hope of extra UCL spot lies entirely on Aston Villa after poor week in Europe for English clubs

Despite all their failures Manchester United still have a sliver of hope regarding UCL qualification for next season. UEFA will be expanding the competition and the best-performing clubs have a chance of earning an extra spot for their respective leagues.

However, most clubs from England have already been knocked out of European competitions. Italy are currently in the lead and Germany is a close second but England could overtake them and earn an extra spot for next season.

Aston Villa beat Lille on penalties to advance in the Europa Conference League and are now the only club from England who are still hanging on in European competitions. It has been a disaster for the other clubs.

Manchester City and Arsenal couldn’t get through in the UCL, while Liverpool and West Ham both fell short in the Europa Conference League. Now, Manchester United have all their hopes riding on Aston Villa.

However, this doesn’t mean all of their work is done. Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham Hotspur currently occupy the fifth spot and are 10 points ahead of the Red Devils. So, Erik ten Hag will have to close that spot if he wants to take that extra UCL spot.

But his team is infamous for being inconsistent and their recent results in the Premier League don’t give a lot of hope to fans. With only a handful of games left, their dreams of European glory could be finished.
