Alexander Isak is on fire right now for Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old is currently unstoppable in front of goal, with Alexander Isak currently boasting 23 goals in all competitions.

Newcastle United‘s most expensive signing ever is also their top scorer this season, while he is in with a shout of winning the Premier League Golden Boot. 19 of his goals have come in the league, leaving him two behind current leader Erling Haaland.

The Sweden international is enjoying a rich vein of form, and was one of Newcastle United’s best players during what was an impressive April. He probably should have been given the club’s player of the month award, but that honour went to Bruno Guimaraes.

Premier League announce player of the month nominees

Isak missed out on the Newcastle award, and now he is going to miss out on the Premier League award too.

The nominees have been unveiled for April’s player of the month award, and the Magpies’ number 14 is nowhere to be seen.

Instead, the six nominees are: Bruno Fernandes, Josko Gvardiol, Cole Palmer, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Kai Havertz and Jordan Pickford.

Interestingly, Newcastle fell victim to a couple of the nominees during the month of April. Pickford was outstanding as Everton snatched a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park, while Mateta scored twice to give Crystal Palace a 2-0 win over the Magpies.

Alexander Isak snubbed despite Newcastle United heroics

However, it feels extremely harsh for the Premier League to snub Isak, who was absolutely sensational last month.

He played in all five of Newcastle United’s fixtures, and played a key role in Eddie Howe’s side picking up 10 points.

Isak scored five goals in April, and only one of them was a penalty. His four other strikes were very impressive, showcasing his speed and ruthlessness in front of goal. That brace against Tottenham was special, and Micky van de Ven is still having nightmares about what happened at St James’ Park.

It was a really special month from the Swede, yet he has not been recognised for it by the Premier League. It is a major surprise to see Isak snubbed, who will be hoping to do just as well in May.

Newcastle teenager up for an award

But while Isak did not receive a nomination in the Premier League’s end of month awards, one Toon player did.

January signing Alfie Harrison is one of eight youngsters who have been nominated for the Premier League 2 player of the month award for April.

The 18-year-old recorded three assists in Toon colours last month, as he continues his bright start to life on Tyneside.
