AC Milan is reportedly seeking a staggering €98 million for French goalkeeper Mike Maignan, amidst interest from Premier League side Chelsea.
Maignan, who joined Milan from Lille in 2021, has established himself as a key player for the Rossoneri, helping them secure the Serie A title last season. His impressive performances have attracted the attention of Chelsea, who are reportedly keen on bolstering their goalkeeping options this summer.
However, Milan is not willing to let their star goalkeeper go without a fight. According to Calciomercato, the Italian club has set a hefty price tag of €98 million for Maignan, a figure that would make him the most expensive goalkeeper in history.
This valuation is significantly higher than Maignan’s current market value, which is estimated to be around €40 million according to Transfermarkt. Nevertheless, Milan’s stance reflects their determination to retain the services of the 28-year-old shot-stopper.
Chelsea, currently ranked 9th in the Premier League, will need to break the bank if they want to secure Maignan’s signature. The Blues have a history of spending big on players, but this proposed fee for Maignan would dwarf their previous record expenditure for a goalkeeper, which stands at £71.6 million for Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018.
The situation surrounding Maignan’s future remains uncertain, with Chelsea’s willingness to meet Milan’s demands yet to be seen. If the Blues do not match the asking price, Maignan could very well remain at Milan for the upcoming season.
