Manchester United handed critical Victor Osimhen boost; Napoli already eyeing move for replacement

Napoli looking to secure Victor Osimhen replacement

The suitors of star Napoli striker Victor Osimhen have been handed a transfer boost, with the defending Serie A champions looking to bring in his replacement before he departs the Stadio Maradona.

Lille’s 24-year-old Canadian striker Jonathan David is on the verge of agreeing a move to the Partenopei, according to The Sun, paving a way for Osimhen to depart.

The Nigeria international was also David’s predecessor at Lille and has remained in red-hot form ever since arriving in Italy four years ago.

The 2020/21 Ligue 1 champions are demanding a fee in the region of £42.7 million for the Canada international, who has scored 81 goals and provided 16 assists in 176 appearances during his four years at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. (Source: Transfermarkt)

Premier League giants Man United, Chelsea, and Liverpool are keen to explore their options in an attempt to lure Osimhen but are likely to face competition with the likes of PSG, who are also looking eager to activate his €120m release clause.

Osimhen signed his new and improved contract extension agreement only last December, which is set to run until June 2026.

Man United better off not pursuing Osimhen

Manchester United are in no position to throw silly money around which will be needed for an acquisition like Victor Osimhen.

The club have been trying to project the idea of being wiser, more savvy in their football-making decisions going forward; splashing €120 million in the first transfer window of the new sporting owners would be anything but.

Having already on board a young striker in Rasmus Højlund, United would be better off pairing him up in the squad with someone like Ivan Toney, who is an experienced Premier League player in his prime years and will be available for a significantly lower fee in the summer.

If United want to demonstrate their inclination towards learning from past mistakes, they would avoid going after Victor Osimhen in the summer.
