Newcastle United have endured an injury ridden season, but one of Eddie Howe’s top stars believes he is now fully fit.

It has been a gruelling campaign for the Magpies, with so many players suffering long-term injuries. Right now, both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are out with ACL injuries, while Nick Pope has been absent since December.

He is expected back soon, as is Joelinton. The 27-year-old, who recently signed a new contract, has been out of action since suffering a thigh injury in the Tyne Wear derby win over Sunderland.

Joe Willock is the latest player to be ruled out, with the £25million man set to miss the rest of the season as he looks to fully get over his Achilles injury.

But there has been some positive news, with Callum Wilson returning to training after a pectoral problem. There is now a chance he could be involved against Crystal Palace.

Newcastle United now have two fully fit strikers

It is excellent to hear that Wilson is back, as it means Eddie Howe finally has another option in attack.

For a lot of this season, he has only been able to rely on one striker, with both Wilson and Alexander Isak suffering alternate injuries. When one became fit, the other got injured.

Hopefully that will not happen again, as Isak is in the form of his life. The 24-year-old scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season against Tottenham Hotspur, and is playing the best football of his Toon career.

While Isak has enjoyed an incredible campaign, he has endured his own frustrations.

The Sweden international has had a niggling groin injury that has ruled him out on multiple occasions, with Isak missing 10 games in total across the season.

But he has spoke to the Chronicle about his current fitness, and believes he is back to 100%.

“Yeah I’m 100% [fit],” he said.

“It is now about trying to keep up this level.”

There have been concerns about Isak’s injury record at Newcastle

It is excellent to hear that Isak feels like he is fully fit again, and that has been evident in his performances. He has been giving defenders nightmares, with Micky van de Van becoming the subject of ridicule after Saturday’s 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Isak’s comments come after Gary Lineker recently questioned the forward’s fitness, believing it was the only question mark hanging over his head after an incredible campaign in front of goal.

He said: “17 goals in 24 Premier League appearances. I mean the only question mark against him is that he has missed a few games.”

Lineker is right about Isak, and it makes you wonder how many goals he would have scored had he avoided injury. But Howe recently stated that Isak has been working hard to maintain his fitness, and it appears to be working.

Now he has the luxury of another striker to share the load, with Wilson returning to training and no doubt desperate to make up for lost time after his own injury woes.
