Ex-Orlando Pirates coach Vermezovic avails himself for the Kaizer Chiefs job - 'I know the solution for what is happening at Amakhosi'

The Serb was once in charge of the Glamour Boys as well as their Soweto rivals the Buccaneers and now wants to return to the PSL.

  • Chiefs are without a substantive coach
  • They are in the hunt for a permanent coach
  • VV wants another stint at Naturena

WHAT HAPPENED?

Molefi Ntseki, Kaizer Chiefs

Vladimir Vermezovoc has expressed interest in having another coaching stint at Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi are under caretaker coach Cavin Johnson following the sacking of Molefi Ntseki in October 2023.

They are searching for a substantive coach and Vermezovic says he is the right man to end Amakhosi's trophy drought.

WHAT VERMEZOVIC SAID

Vladimir Vermezovic

"Of course, why not," Vermezovic told KickOff when asked about if he would be interested in the Amakhosi job again.

"I have good memories from my time at Chiefs. I made some mistakes just like others also made mistakes, but these are all things that happen in the world of football.

"However, with the experience that I now have about South African football, I can deal differently with some things. I understand the environment better now," the Serb said.

"To understand the mentality of people in that space is very important and that is why I had some problems in the beginning when I got there. The mentality was totally different, but later it became much better.

"Back then everything was new for me, but now I have a better understanding. For Kaizer Chiefs, it is too much to hear that they have gone almost 10 years without winning a trophy," he added.

"Everything is about trophies at Chiefs. I know that because I was there. I know the solution for what is happening at Chiefs.

"Of course, the fans will not be happy if you don’t win games and don’t win trophies," concluded the ex-Pirates trainer.

"I remember that when I came to Chiefs in 2009, the club was in a better situation than now. It looks bad now."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Roger De Sa

Vermezovic becomes another coach to make himself available for the Amakhosi job after Roger de Sa also issued a come-get-me plea.

If the Serb applies for the Chiefs job, what could work against him is that he does not have a glowing record of winning trophies except guiding Amakhosi to the Telkom Knockout and Pirates to the Nedbank Cup.

He has also been struggling to clinch silverware while working in Montenegro, United Arab Emirates and Slovenia since leaving the PSL.

In their search for a new coach, it is to be seen if Chiefs will go for a man who has previous experience working in the PSL or if they will consider someone who will be coaching in South Africa for the first time.

Pitso Mosimane is another coach familiar with domestic football and being linked with a move to Naturena.

WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Amakhosi's search for a new coach continues and the delay to replace Ntseki has kept their fans anxious to know the new man to take charge of first-team duties permanently.

For now, Cavin Johnson will help them finish their season which has six league games remaining.
