Arsenal staff reportedly have ‘strong support’ in moving this summer to sign a £50m-rated UEFA Champions League midfielder.
The Gunners are expected to spend big yet again in the upcoming transfer window, with Mikel Arteta’s side already linked with some big names such as Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
As well as forwards, the midfield is expected to receive a makeover of sorts, with Thomas Partey rumored to be leaving as Arsenal look to find a long-term replacement for the former Atletico Madrid star.
And it appears that Arsenal staff might already have an ideal successor in mind.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal staff are showing ‘strong support’ in a move for £50m-rated Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who has been linked with the north London side for quite some time.
A star in La Liga and the Champions League this season, Zubimendi ticks a lot of boxes for what Arsenal want in a midfielder, with the 25-year-old potentially a dream replacement for Partey if the Ghanian is sold in the summer.
Indeed, Zubimendi is clearly a player who Arteta rates highly, with this summer seemingly the ideal time to move for the Sociedad star with midfield reinforcements clearly needed in the upcoming transfer window.
And with other Arsenal staff members now on board with a move for Zubimendi, there’s a good chance that the Spanish maestro might become the Gunners’ first signing of the summer market.
With a £50m release clause, Arsenal won’t be the only side interested in signing Zubimendi, who this season has likely won more suitors than what is currently being reported.
As a result, Arsenal need to move fast if they’re to secure Zubimendi’s signature, with talks likely already going on behind the scenes as the north London side look to improve their squad yet again in the transfer window.
And given how much change there likely will be this summer, getting Zubimendi through the door early would be a wise step for Arsenal, with the midfielder exactly what the Gunners are looking for.
