Arsenal are now said to be willing to sell a player who Mikel Arteta has often lauded as a player with huge potential.

Despite everything Arsenal have and can still achieve this season, Edu Gaspar is thought to be preparing for a very busy summer ahead.

Calling it a ‘squad overhaul’ may be a little strong, but Arsenal could sanction the exits of several familiar names.

Mikel Arteta’s project is now progressing so quickly, and only the best and most dynamic talents will keep up.

It’s remarkable to think that both Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus are now slightly on the periphery of things after returning from injury, two of the club’s most important players not so long ago.

But Arsenal are improving all the time, and in order to continue that upward trajectory this summer, they may need to be ruthless in the transfer market.

Perhaps the club will chase talents as big as Alexander Isak or Douglas Luiz, meaning players will also need to move on.

Mikel Arteta could sanction an Arsenal departure for Fabio Vieira this summer

That being said, The Athletic have just shared a report detailing 12 players who could all end up leaving for different reasons.

Some aren’t a surprise, the likes of Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny who will be out of contract.

However, it’s slightly more eyebrow-raising that Fabio Vieira could be one of the players free to go.

Mikel Arteta previously claimed that the midfielder had ‘enormous talent’, a player it still felt as if the manager had a long-term plan for.

But according to this report, Fabio Vieira could be available, along with other first team players such as Aaron Ramsdale, Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah.

And when you consider that Arsenal do also have Kieran Tierney, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Marquinhos out on loan, it demonstrates the scale of the task.

Arsenal could oversee something of a mass exodus this summer, with perhaps Smith Rowe and Vieira being the most regrettable names there.

Does Fabio Vieira still have unfinished business at Arsenal?

Right now it feels as if Vieira, who signed for £34m back in 2022, is so far away from the first team.

The Portuguese midfielder did suffer fairly substantial injury over the festive period, but is now back fit and ready if needed.

And in truth, there’s been very little clamour from Arsenal fans begging for the midfielder to get a chance.

Emile Smith Rowe is ahead of him in that regard, another departure which would feel very uneasy should it come to fruition.

Both Vieira and Smith Rowe have such excellent skill-sets, players who can decide Premier League games on their own.

But similarly, if they can’t be given the chance to show it, it’s unfair to keep them at the club.

All that being said, David Seaman wasn’t too impressed with one Arsenal player against Aston Villa on Sunday.
