Newcastle United are not letting Manchester United have their way regarding Dan Ashworth.

The 53-year-old is going to be leaving Newcastle United for Manchester United, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe poaching the former FA chief from St James’ Park.

But the Magpies are not going to just let Man United take Dan Ashworth. They want to be heavily compensated, and are looking to receive £20million.

It is an incredible amount for a behind the scenes figure – and an amount that Ratcliffe believes is silly. The British billionaire is seemingly not willing to put his hand in his pocket, with Ashworth tidying his garden in anticipation.

Newcastle United have placed Ashworth on gardening leave, and that is where he could remain until the end of 2025 if compensation is not agreed.

And the latest round of talks suggest that a deal between Newcastle and Man United is not close.

How much Manchester United have offered for Newcastle United

Obviously Man United want Ashworth to start as soon as possible ahead of the summer transfer window. However, that feels impossible.

Instead, it was recently reported that they would like him in place by September, as that means they would only have to endure one transfer window without him.

But they obviously are not that desperate given the lowball offer they made.

According to the Telegraph, Manchester United have offered Newcastle £2million in compensation for Ashworth.

They report that the Red Devils are £13million shy of what Toon officials want, while they are also looking for a further £5million in add-ons.

Newcastle are not budging from their £20million asking price, despite Man United’s very public complaints.

Why Man United do not want to meet Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth demands

The two parties are miles apart, and the Telegraph have now shared details on why Man United do not want to pay Newcastle the fee they are looking for.

They report that Man United privately think that the money they would need to spend to get Ashworth – more than £10million – would be better spent on new players. The Telegraph add that Man United have a tight budget this summer.

My heart bleeds for them… The team that have wasted so much money on players have now got a limited budget!

Newcastle close in on Ashworth’s replacement

While Man United struggle to find two pennies to rub together, Newcastle are getting closer to finding Ashworth’s replacement.

It appears that the search for Ashworth’s replacement could reach a conclusion very soon, with Paul Mitchell one of the frontrunners to come in.

Whether or not that results in Newcastle easing their Ashworth demands remains to be seen. That will be Man United’s hope, but their current offer of £2million is laughable.
