EFL club owner reveals what he wants Chelsea owner Todd Boehly to do after FA Cup controversy

EFL Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has now shared how he thinks Chelsea owner Todd Boehly can turn around people’s opinions on him.

Chelsea fans divided on Todd Boehly

Blues fans are fuming that they have seen their side linger in the mid-table places for the majority of his tenure, while football fans in general are not happy with his free-spending approach.

They still have the chance to add some silverware to the trophy cabinet for the first time since the new owners came in, with them taking part in the FA Cup semi-final tomorrow at Wembley.

One of the club’s best performances this season came in a replay against Aston Villa earlier this year, where they were 3-1 victors off the back of a sensational Enzo Fernandez goal.

This opportunity is not going to be a possibility in the future, with the competition set to remove them for future years.

This has caused quite the controversy, particularly with lower-league sides who have utilised the competition for its finances in the past.

Todd Boehly told to defend FA Cup after changes

MacAnthony has stated that he believes Boehly has the chance to change people’s minds on him by standing with those sides who are fuming at the recent developments.

He said: “What I would really love is you get a lot of American owners who get criticised coming into football, like Todd Boehly, this would be a great opportunity for Todd Boehly to come out and say ‘you know what, I disagree with this’. Chelsea stand with the EFL.

“I would love that. This is a chance for one of these big club owners to come out and say ‘yeah we’re in this for a few dollars and whatever else’ but actually this goes against the principle of the Football League and Chelsea are another club completely against this and we stand with the EFL.”

All eyes will be looking to see if Chelsea can end their Wembley hoodoo in the competition tomorrow when they take on Manchester City in the FA Cup.

All the questions right now are pending on Mauricio Pochettino’s team selection, and whether he is looking to bring Enzo Fernandez back into the fold after his recent injury.
