Former Manchester United and Manchester City star Carlos Tevez has been rushed to hospital.

The Argentine, who played over 200 matches in the Premier League, spent a night at a hospital in the San Isidro area of Buenos Aires after suffering from chest pains.

A statement from Independiente, the club that Tevez manages, said: “Our coach, Carlos Tevez, went to the La Trinidad Hospital in San Isidro with chest pain. They carried out the corresponding tests and they were satisfactory. Today he will continue with a series of tests scheduled in advance as part of a general check-up.”

They added: “Carlos Tevez will be hospitalised as a precaution until the corresponding tests are completed.”

Tevez is set to undergo further medical tests at the Finochietto Hospital in Buenos Aires.

Throughout his playing career, Tevez played for both Manchester club, as well as West Ham United, Juventus, Shanghai Shenhua, Corinthians and Boca Juniors.

In England, Tevez made 201 appearances in the top flight, scoring 84 goals and assisting 36.

He won two Premier League titles with United before winning one with City when Sergio Aguero scored that famous late winner against Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the season.

In 2021, Tevez announced his decision to retire from professional football, he was also capped 76 times by his country, Argentina.

Since retiring from playing, Tevez has been spending time in his home country as he ventures into coaching and management.

The 40-year-old’s first taste in management was at Rosario Central. However, his spell ended with just six wins out of 24 matches across all competitions.

In August last year, Tevez was named as the manager of Independiente, he has so far won 13 out of 29 matches.

Independiente are set to return to action on May 12 when they take on Talleres Cordoba.
