It's time to catch up with the Tottenham Hotspur players who have left the club in the past 12 months to start new chapters in their careers
With Eric Dier starring in midweek and enjoying knocking Arsenal out of the Champions League it seems as good a time as any to check in on all of the Tottenham players who have left the club permanently since the end of last season.
Thirteen players who had been involved in and around the first team in recent years made their way out of Tottenham either at the end of last season, during the summer transfer window or in the most recent January one. Their numbers range from experienced pros and long-serving stars to young players who never really got their career going at Spurs.
Here's a look at how all 13 players have got on since leaving the north London club, starting with Tottenham's former captain.
The World Cup winner and long-time Tottenham skipper left the club in January after 11 years between the sticks to start a new life and adventure in MLS and Los Angeles with LAFC.
Lloris has been playing every game as you would expect and the 37-year-old appears to have settled well into life across the Atlantic. The goalkeeper has continued to do plenty of interviews with the British media as part of promoting the MLS and also explaining his move.
In an interview with The Times last month, the Frenchman said: "When I retired from the national team after the World Cup, what was happening to the club meant I was on a different page. I had a conversation with Daniel [Levy, the Tottenham chairman] and we felt, on my side but also on the club’s side, that it was the end of an era. He felt the club needed to start something new and I totally understood. It was also my feeling.
"We decided to split ways but even if I couldn’t find the right spot in the summer I stayed patient and was waiting for the right move. I know it seemed a bit weird from the outside but I committed to the training sessions and I was preparing myself to leave."
He added: "When Ange [Postecoglou] arrived the situation was clear. The club presented to him the situation about the goalkeepers, the club decided to bring in Vicario. So with Ange, there was never any problem. There was a cordial relationship, with respect, there was no issue.
"Ange has a really good idea about football, he has his own convictions and he has made a huge amount of difference in a really short period of time. He has brought a different style of football to what we were used to in the last four or five years. Before it was more about transition, today it’s an aggressive team, about possession football and a really offensive team which the Spurs fans expect. It reminds me of the way we played with Poch."
The Frenchman added in an interview with the BBC: "I believe there is a good future at Spurs. They are building something important and there is a lot of credit to give to Ange, because as a coach to change the dynamic of a club in a short time is just a huge impact.
"I’m not worried about some results because at the end I believe in the way they play and believe in the players they have got in the squad and probably it can be a bright future. I wish them the best and to be in the Champions League next season and to reduce the gap to the best teams in the country and Europe."
Lloris is enjoying life in the United States and says he would have retired at Tottenham if he didn't have the spark to keep playing.
"If I didn’t have the motivation, if I didn’t have this light still inside myself, I would have stopped after Spurs," he said. "I arrived at this point in my career when I needed something new, something fresh, some different faces and a different environment to allow me to enjoy my football again. Sometimes there are opportunities you don’t want to miss."
Of course you don't really need any reminding that Harry Kane left Tottenham last year but we have to quickly check in to see how the club's all-time goalscorer is doing.
As you would expect, he's scoring goals aplenty and breaking records at Bayern Munich with 39 goals and 12 assists in 39 matches in the Bundesliga and Champions League, meaning a remarkable 51 direct goal involvements.
Domestic silverware is not on the table this season as the team around him has stuttered and stumbled under Thomas Tuchel, who will leave at the end of this season, and for the first time in years it will be a different name on the Bundesliga trophy as unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen have already won the trophy.
Kane and Bayern's hopes of a cup win rest on the Champions League and the midweek victory against Arsenal have set up a semi-final against Real Madrid.
The Brazilian departed Spurs after five years at the end of his contract last summer and signed for Sao Paulo. He completed a dream return by winning the Copa do Brasil last September, scoring in the semi-final second leg against Corinthians and then playing in both legs of the final against Flamengo.
"I must confess, considering that São Paulo is the club I supported – the club of my heart – where the fans had requested my return, the emotions and nerves were heavier," he said in the Guardian after winning that prize. "Coming back to São Paulo and winning this title was very special, without a doubt one of the greatest achievements of my career.
"Returning to my country, returning to the team I love – which is like a second skin to me – and being able to win and feel this emotion again was priceless. Playing for São Paulo is different for me as it is the club where I was formed."
On his time at Spurs he said: "What remains for me is everything I built there: the things I achieved on and off the field, the friendships I made. I was very happy and fulfilled in many ways, despite not winning a title. I evolved a lot as a player, as a person, and it was a very memorable journey. And in my farewell match, I was able to come on for a little bit and even scored a goal to leave with that feeling of celebrating. It’s a club I will hold dear in my heart."
The 31-year-old has been in and out of action this season with a hamstring injury although he has popped up with two goals and four assists in the eight games he has played and has captained Sao Paulo on a couple occasions.
The Colombian has enjoyed a good campaign on the whole in Turkey after moving to Galatasaray in September, although he was out injured for around a month-and-a-half. While Tanguy Ndombele, who joined with him on loan, has struggled for minutes, Sanchez has played regularly around a hamstring injury and toe problem.
The centre-back has made 26 appearances for the Turkish Super Lig side and been a threat at the other end of the pitch with three goals and two assists, both of those coming against Manchester United in October in the Champions League.
The ex-Spurs contingent at Galatasaray has grown around the 27-year-old in recent weeks with both Carlos Vinicius and Serge Aurier heading to Turkey.
Sanchez could join the ranks of those players who have left Tottenham and won a league title as Galatasaray sit on top of the Super Lig table, two points ahead of Fenerbahce, with six games to go.
Another player looking to win a league title, albeit a second tier one, is Harry Winks, although Leicester, along with their Championship title rivals, seem to be trying to do their best to chuck away the top spot.
The Foxes have lost their past three away games 1-0 and drew the previous one at Hull City, so sit second in the standings, a point behind Ipswich with a game in hand, after leading the way since September.
Now 28, Winks has barely missed a minute of action in the league with 44 appearances and two goals across all competitions as a driving force in the Leicester midfield. He is their controlling lynchpin in the middle, averaging 88.6 passes per game this season with an accuracy of 93.9%.
Despite the managers he worked with at Spurs, Winks has an even higher regard for Leicester boss Enzo Maresca, claiming to Sky Sports last month: "By far the best manager I’ve worked for. He’s incredible, I think everybody would say he’s going to the very top in managerial stature. He’s got everything, great man manager, he’s tactically incredible.
"Some of the decisions he tells us to do before the game, how we view the matches, is something I’ve never experienced before in football. It’s opened my eyes a lot to football and the way it’s played.
"That kind of Pep Guardiola style as well, I know he’s worked with him for a very, very long time, so I’m loving my football, it works perfectly for me. It’s the kind of football I want to play and I buy into, and I think since he’s come in I’ve learned so much and continue to do that."
The Frenchman's loan spell at Tottenham last season was not turned into a permanent move but he returned to the Premier League from Barcelona to Aston Villa, where he is now battling against Spurs for a place in the top four and the chance to win the Europa Conference League.
Lenglet spent much of the first half of the season unused in the Premier League but injuries in central defence gave the 28-year-old centre-back the chance to get plenty of game until recent weeks.
The defender has made 23 appearances for Unai Emery's side and has played his part in their success so far this season and he will be hoping to get one over his old club in the Premier League finish and also get past Olympiacos in the Conference League semi-finals in May.
Another Spurs loan player who didn't make the permanent move to the north London club. The Netherlands international never really seemed to be wanted by Antonio Conte before his short loan at Tottenham ended last season with two goals in 12 appearances. Danjuma then made the surprise move from Villarreal to Everton, the team he snubbed at the last moment to head to north London six months earlier.
The 27-year-old did not find goals easy to come by at Everton either, with two in 20 matches in the first half of the season, and there was some talk about Danjuma leaving the Toffees in January, with Lyon linked, but a move never materialised.
His situation has not been helped by an ankle injury that kept him for two-and-a-half months before he returned to the bench at the weekend at Stamford Bridge.
Technically he's still out on a loan deal for now, but with his contract at Tottenham ending in a few months, Dier has triggered the option for Bayern Munich to sign him permanently in the summer.
The 29-year-old's move has been a really positive one as he quickly became a first choice in the Bavarian's backline and has played in most matches since his arrival. He has racked up 14 appearances for Bayern and was named man of the match in their second leg victory over Arsenal on Wednesday night in the Champions League quarter-finals, admitting it was "nice" to knock out his old local rivals after almost a decade at Spurs.
The centre-back became a father for the first time while starting his new adventure in Germany and he is loving life at the Munich club.
"For me, it's a privilege to play for a club like this," Dier said after the win against Arsenal. "I feel extremely proud to play for the club. I love to play every single time, you know, to put on the shirt is special to me."
On his long-term future beyond 2025, he added: "I don't get too far ahead of myself. I think it's real dangerous, but yeah, I love it here. I love the club. I love the feeling of playing for this club. So I will just keep trying to play well."
As with Dier, Ivan Perisic is on loan but with his contract winding down to its final months, he left Tottenham for Hajduk Split and he has agreed a deal to play for the Croatian side next season.
The 35-year-old made his return from his cruciate ligament injury this month with substitute appearances in Hajduk's last two matches in the league and another one as they lost 1-0 at home to Dinamo Zagreb in the Croatian cup.
His early return - Tottenham did not think he would play again this season - boosts his chances of making Croatia's squad for the Euros.
White left the club last summer after coming through Tottenham's academy to make three appearances for Spurs, once from the bench in the Premier League, once in the Europa League and he played the full 90 minutes of the FA Cup win at non-league Marine under Jose Mourinho.
The 22-year-old moved to Stevenage last summer but has struggled to get game time at the Lamex Stadium throughout the season. He didn't appear in a league game until December, and has been in and out of matchday squads since albeit with a couple of appearances this month from the bench as Boro's fixtures have come thick and fast.
In all White has appeared in 10 games in League One this season, including four matches in the FA Cup and three in the FA Trophy, scoring and assisting once a piece in both competitions.
Lyons-Foster left Tottenham in January having been a mainstay of the U21s in recent years as well as training with the first team on plenty of occasions due to his versatility. He was on the bench for the club in the Europa Conference League a couple of times but never got his chance on the pitch.
Now 23, the defender, who can also play in midfield, is making his way in the professional game in Finland for HJK Helsinki after agreeing a two-year deal, plus an option for a third. Lyons-Foster moved from north London without a transfer fee, but Spurs will receive a percentage of any potential future sale.
He has started the season showing his versatility while playing the 90 minutes in both of Helsinki's opening matches, the first as right-back and the second as left-back.
"Tottenham is of course a club dear to me. I have spent more than half of my life there, growing both as a player and as a person," he said in a club interview after joining Helsinki. "It certainly felt strange for a while that I'm not representing Tottenham anymore, but on the other hand, it's wonderful to be able to start my own journey now. I'm really, really excited about this opportunity and can't wait to get started."
He added: "Of course, it was a big disappointment [not breaking into the first team], but I believe that there is a reason for everything. Now I am happy to be able to start in a new club with a long and successful history and European games and a fight for the championship ahead.
"It's great and exciting to be part of such a club, and hats off to you people in the club. The transfer and the entire process related to it was really smooth and comfortable in every way."
Estonian international Paskotsi left Spurs in September this season having made one appearance for the club in a Europa Conference League qualifier. The versatile 21-year-old is now playing at Grasshoppers in Switzerland and has been getting plenty of game time in this new chapter in his career.
The defender has played at right-back and centre-back across his appearances this season and soon worked his way into the starting line-up, making 23 appearances in all. Paskotsi also now has 26 caps for Estonia despite his age, having been drafted into the national set-up when he was a teenager.
Fagan-Walcott made one appearance for Spurs and it was a big one, coming on in the Champions League at RB Leipzig in the final minutes of that knockout defeat under Mourinho and now he's playing in Scotland on loan.
After being released by Tottenham last summer, the 22-year-old centre-back made the move to Cardiff City to play for their Under-21s, although he did make the first team bench for their FA Cup and Carabao Cup games this season.
Then in January he was sent on loan to Dunfermline Athletic. The young defender already had experience of the Scottish leagues, having played for Dundee on loan from Spurs in 2021, and he has settled in well at his new club. He has started every match he's been available for in the Scottish Championship, racking up 13 appearances so far and he's also notched three goals in that time, scoring his most recent last weekend at Airdrieonians.
