Jurgen Klopp makes claim about Goodison Park atmosphere ahead of Everton vs Liverpool clash

Everton have had just two days off since their last Premier League match, but will still hopefully be raring to go for tonight’s Merseyside derby.

After all, it is a fixture which needs no introduction, and for the players, they should need no further motivation.

Doing it for their own survival ambitions and for a fanbase that has not had bragging rights for what feels like forever, tonight marks an opportunity to make history and shake up both ends of the Premier League table.

That is, despite the visitors having lost just once in the league since February, whilst Everton have a meagre two league wins since December.

It is a clash between two sides sporting wildly different form, so Sean Dyche will be praying that the old adage of the form book going out the window actually comes true today.

Jurgen Klopp praises Goodison Park

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp sought to assess both the availability of his own team, as well as the dangers that Dyche’s side poses too.

However, when detailing their outstanding threat, he settled on a trait that only the fans can control, instead seeking to praise Goodison Park.

The German claimed: ‘Goodison Park can create quite a good atmosphere as well. When they play Liverpool, it’s about more than the three points.’

Hopefully, after a strong showing from the fanbase on Sunday, they can take it to the next level in order to disrupt the title-chasing Reds and finally end their own relegation worries.

Everton need the atmosphere to be brutal to unsettle Liverpool

It was the 2018/19 Premier League season, and for a pleasant change, Everton were not fighting for their lives.

Instead, as they welcomed Liverpool to Goodison Park in March, their season still had plenty on the line.

European football was a very real possibility, and despite a strong end to the campaign, they would miss out by just three points to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, their Merseyside rivals had loftier ambitions, as they were once again going toe-to-toe with Manchester City.

Making the trip across Stanley Park, it was expected that they would blow away Marco Silva’s men and continue surging towards the title.

But a truly raucous home atmosphere, alongside a gritty, workmanlike performance, halted their winning run.

Although the Toffees did not attain their European ambitions, that draw essentially handed the title to Pep Guardiola, as both he and Liverpool won all of their remaining league games.

Whilst Dyche has more pressing matters than simply upsetting his club’s rivals, with survival far from assured, and kind of result tonight could go a long way towards completely detailing Liverpool’s title charge again, leaving Evertonians with fresh ammunition for the coming years.
