Cesc Fabregas has been building his all-time Premier League XI.
The Spaniard has played with and against some of the best players in the history of this league, and, as you can imagine, Fabregas’ side did contain a little bit of Arsenal bias.
Indeed, Fabregas put a number of Arsenal players in his team such as David Seaman and Thierry Henry, while he also put an Arsenal representative in the midfield.
Fabregas named his all-time Premier League XI when speaking to The Mail, and he chose Patrick Vieira in his midfield.
“Patrick Vieira in midfield with Steven Gerrard, Cristiano Ronaldo on the left then on the right either David Silva or Kevin De Bruyne,” Fabregas said.
There’s always chat about who belongs in an all-time Premier League XI, and as we get further and further away from Vieira’s time at Arsenal, he’s featuring less and less in these conversations.
It’s almost 20 years since Vieira left Arsenal for £14m, so it’s understandable that memories are becoming a little hazy, but let’s not forget just how incredible a player the Frenchman was.
Yes, his stats don’t show it in the same way players like Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard’s do, but he was probably the most dominant midfield force in English football for a number of years.
Vieira was the spine of arguably the greatest team in Premier League history – The Invincibles, and he does belong in this conversation of all-time Premier League greats.
Yes, the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Yaya Toure also deserve to be mentioned in a more modern sense, but Vieira was just as good even if he did play in a different era.
Vieira is becoming more and more underrated as time progresses.
