It’s no surprise that the great Lionel Messi tops this list, but West Ham United winger Maxwel Cornet popping up in second actually blows my mind.

Maxwel Cornet has been in really poor form since joining West Ham from Burnley back in the summer of 2022.

That said, he’s hardly been given a chance to prove himself by David Moyes, with just 946 minutes of action for the Hammers in 20 months.

However, fate has conspired so that the Ivorian may well be given a big opportunity for West Ham tonight, with so many attacking players either injured or suspended.

It must be so frustrating for Cornet that injuries have seriously hindered his development at the London Stadium.

We all know he’s a very good player – he proved that during his spells with Lyon out in France and Burnley in the Premier League.

However, his standing on one statistical list will absolutely blow the West Ham fans’ minds…

We can all agree that Lionel Messi has been one of the best two players over the past two decades yes?

I mean in my personal opinion, he is the best player of all-time. His record of goals and assists in games over the past 18 years or so is truly incredible.

The 36-year-old has bagged 722 goals and 347 assists in 875 games in his club career, with 106 goals for Argentina to his name as well (Transfermarkt).

It’s no shock whatsoever that he tops this list. In fact, if you didn’t know who was at the summit of the list in question, you’d have guessed that it was Messi.

He has been the best player in world football as far as most football fans are concerned, and the mercurial Argentine sits at the top of many statistical goalscoring records.

However, with this particular one, Cornet sitting in second place is truly stunning…

Squawka have compiled a fascinating list highlighting the most Champions League goals scored against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side over the past eight years.

And just look who’s plotted up in second place!!

The fact that West Ham winger Maxwel Cornet is behind only Messi and alongside the likes of Rodrygo and Karim Benzema in this list is utterly bonkers to me!

Also, does his haul of four goals against Pep’s Man City surprise anyone else! And…why hasn’t Moyes used that to his advantage when we play them!

The 27-year-old bagged four goals in three Champions League games vs Manchester City during his time with Lyon (Transfermarkt) – a quite remarkable feat.

We’ve got to play Man City on the final day of the season, and I reckon West Ham boss David Moyes should give Maxwel Cornet a chance against Guardiola’s men!
