As Manchester United return to Premier League action on the pitch against Brighton today, off the pitch the wait goes on as the Glazers' sale of the club continues to sit in limbo.

The Glazers announced in November a 'strategic review' into their ownership of the club when they stressed that all options would remain on the table including investment into the club and a full sale. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani quickly emerged as the two main candidates to complete a takeover.

But neither party has managed to complete a purchase, with the current owners showing little sign over the months in finalising a sale and both Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim seemingly left in the dark. with Ratcliffe saying this week that, should he acquire the club, failure is not an option.

The uncertainty - combined with other drama surrounding the club in the last few weeks - has led to United's share price fluctuating wildly, not helping the prospect of a sale any time soon. MEN Sport will be keep tabs on what is happening with the takeover and bring you the latest sale news.
