Federico Valverde has now spoken about his future at Real Madrid – after Manchester City made a move to sign him back in July.

That was according to 90min – who claimed that the Citizens made contact over a deal for the Uruguay international.

So, what has Federico Valverde now said? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the South American has admitted that he hopes to stay at Real Madrid for as long as he feels capable of playing for the Spanish giants.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Valverde said: “Premier League offers? I have the ability to play for Real. The day I don’t feel like that, I’m probably going to look for another solution or Real itself will look for one for me.”

90min state that Manchester City enquired about the Uruguayan as Pep Guardiola tried to prepare for life after Ilkay Gundogan, but Real Madrid rejected all approaches for their No.15 this summer.

The Citizens, of course, eventually signed Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes instead.

Valverde has been at Real Madrid since he was 18 years of age, and has worked hard to fight his way into the first-team after emerging from the Castilla ranks.

The 25-year-old now has 209 appearances for Real Madrid to his name, along with one UEFA Champions League, a Spanish title and many other trophies, so it’s clear to see why he loves the club.

Manchester City should cross Federico Valverde off the list

Valverde was clearly a highly ambitious target for Manchester City to pursue this summer, and Guardiola has now received an answer from the £181,000-a-week man himself, loud and clear.

The Montevideo-born maestro has a contract at the Santiago Bernabeu running until July 2027, so it would arguably take a world record bid to even make Real Madrid think about selling him.

Even in the event that an offer was accepted, it sounds as if Valverde would fight to stay – he clearly loves Real Madrid.

Nevertheless, it is hardly like Manchester City desperately needed the Uruguay international this summer – Guardiola still has a wealth of options in his midfield department.
