Ex-Man United legend lined up for shock managerial return with EFL job

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs may well be in line for a shock return to management as he has been linked with a job in EFL League Two.

According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, Salford City are closing in on the permanent appointment of the former manager of the Welsh team.

The report states that the United legend, 49, could be pushed back into the dugout if Neil Wood does not get Salford into contention for the play-offs.

The Welshman would only be appointed in that scenario so it seems more that Giggs is pushing for the job rather than the League Two side actively pursuing a deal for the former United winger.

It’s clear to see the side owned by Giggs and his former team-mates Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and David Beckham, along with Singaporean businessman Peter Lim – have struggled so far this season.

The League Two side sit 19th in the fourth tier after two wins, one draw and five defeats from their opening eight games.

Salford did finish in the play-offs last season but failed to earn promotion from the division and remain in the fourth tier of English football.

Ryan Giggs fresh start

After he did a decent job at Wales before his legal issues, the Welshman may well be exactly what the Manchester-based side needs next season if play-offs aren’t secured this season.

MORE UNITED STORIES

The United legend has only had one job in management although he was temporarily in charge of United following David Moyes’ disastrous stint in charge of the club.

Giggs has four games in charge of the Red Devils, he won one, drew two and lost the other in a mixed stint at Old Trafford club.

The Welshman was then an assistant to Louis Van Gaal before he departed the club in 2016.
