Manchester City have done something recently they haven’t done in several years.
Specifically, City have lost their three previous games for the first time since 2018.
After getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham Hotspur, the Blues followed that up by losing to Bournemouth in the Premier League and Sporting CP in the Champions League.
The defeat in Portugal saw Bernardo Silva claim City are in a “dark place” right now, although Pep Guardiola disagreed with Silva on this particular topic.
Going back to the defeat against Bournemouth, a pundit and former top-flight player has shared some behind-the-scenes details on an unfortunate incident that took place between himself and one of City’s key figures.
While reflecting on City’s recent run of results, including their 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League last weekend, Troy Deeney said this about a misjudged interaction he had with Kyle Walker after the defeat to the Cherries.
He said: “Then I saw Kyle Walker afterwards, and I said it on-air, like, you know, you see somebody and you go, ah, hi, how are you doing, mate? You okay?
“As soon as I said it, I was like, why did you say that? He just lost as the captain, he had a bad day, Semenyo, you know, gave him a tough time, ran over a few times. And he just looked at me, like, not now, not now, Troy.”
The right-back completed the full 90 minutes against the Cherries despite having spent the previous few weeks out injured.
After the defeat to Andoni Iraola’s side, Walker refused to use City’s injury list as an excuse for the result before giving “full credit” to Bournemouth for securing their first-ever win against the Manchester club.
In his team of the week article, Deeney highlighted Walker’s misfortunes, saying this after dubbing Antoine Semenyo the best player of the weekend.
He said: “He dominated Kyle Walker. I’ll put it down to this – Walker played a 6/10 and Semenyo was 9.5/10.
“I don’t think Semenyo will have a better game – everything he touched landed at his feet. He got himself a goal. He bodied Walker at one stage, put him on the ground.
“We’ve all had those games – if you’re Kyle you think “stay away from me.”
Now that Deeney has shared how much he regretted asking Walker how he was after the Bournemouth defeat, it seems that this incident led to him making the claim he made in his team of the week article about the City defender wanting to be left alone.
