Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke was back on the goal trail at the weekend with a brace in the 4-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa.
Spurs came from behind after Morgan Rogers put the Villans ahead in the 32nd minute with the game’s first shot on target after the hosts failed to deal with Lucas Digne’s corner.
However, Brennan Johnson drew Tottenham level on 49 minutes, firing home after meeting Son Heung-min’s cross from the left.
Solanke then put Spurs ahead in the 75th minute by skilfully lifting the ball over the onrushing Emiliano Martinez from Dejan Kulusevski’s pass.
Just four minutes later, Richarlison picked out Solanke to slot in and put Tottenham 3-1 up, before James Maddison added a fourth through a superb stoppage-time free kick.
Alan Shearer and Gabriel Agbonlahor both named the Tottenham summer signing in their respective Premier League teams of the week.
Shearer said on the Premier League website: “Scored the goals that his tireless work deserved.
“The Spurs striker ultimately proved to be the difference in the 4-1 win over Aston Villa.”
Solanke made the cut up front along with Alexander Isak, who scored the winner for Newcastle against Arsenal.
Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “First half he wouldn’t have been anywhere near it, but second half I thought Solanke was a menace to Aston Villa.
“If you look at his goal, it’s such a great timed run and he finished like Haaland would finish, like a striker who’s full of confidence.
“That’s a clever finish to dink it over the keeper. The keeper’s not expecting it, goes down to make a save.
“And second goal, you know, he’s getting in the box where he needs to be.
“Yes, it’s a tap-in, but he is in three with intent to score, and I thought he caused Aston Villa problems in the second half.
“And to get a brace, I think it’s fair that Solanke gets in the Team of the Week.”
