Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has urged Chelsea to make a move for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes this summer, adding Marcus Rashford could also be a player to consider signing.

United are reportedly open to offers for the vast majority of their squad this summer as they plot an overhaul, with only four senior players made unavailable for exits.

Fernandes is among those who the club could therefore offload and the midfielder himself has this week admitted he is contemplating his future at Old Trafford after another below-par campaign.

"I'm not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn't been at the level I'd hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far," the Portuguese playmaker said in conversation with DAZN. "So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won't be until after the Euros.

"Because nothing will be able to take my focus away from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there's nothing more important than that at the moment."

Of the view Chelsea should be looking to take advantage of this situation, Gallas told Gambling Zone: "Both Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes could be good options for Chelsea. Both are quality players. Bruno could definitely be the kind of midfielder who has the quality to play in the number ten role where Chelsea lack strength.

"Chelsea are a team of young players and Bruno Fernandes has the leadership qualities to get through certain periods. He'd be a good signing if the rumours are true."

Fernandes is under contract at United until 2026, having signed a four-year extension at the club in 2022. Rashford, meanwhile, only signed a new deal last July - keeping him tied down until 2028 - though his performances have nosedived during the current campaign.

Data recently revealed by Capology has shown Fernandes and Rashford are among the six highest earners at United, with the former taking home a reported £240,000 per week and the latter earning a staggering £300,000. The Red Devils' two most well-paid players are understood to be Casemiro and Raphael Varane, both of whom signed after a successful period at Real Madrid.
