Gateshead's FA Trophy third-round fixture against Farsley Celtic at the Gateshead International Stadium was abandoned tonight following an on-field medical emergency.
Farsley Celtic captain Lewis Turner suffered an on-field medical emergency, with both clubs agreeing the game should be abandoned.
Posting on Facebook, Farsley Celtic FC said: "Tonight’s FA Trophy fixture at Gateshead has been abandoned following a serious injury to Celts’ player Lewis Turner.
"Lewis has now been taken away via ambulance following an on-field medical emergency. We will update supporters on Lewis’ condition when possible."
In their own Facebook post, Gateshead FC said: "Following an on-field medical emergency involving Farsley Celtic captain Lewis Turner at tonight's Isuzu FA Trophy third round tie, the decision has been taken to abandon the game after discussions between both clubs.
"Our thoughts go out to Lewis Turner & all involved with Farsley Celtic at this time."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 8.15pm on Tuesday, 10 December to reports of a medical incident at Gateshead International Stadium. We dispatched two ambulance crews and a specialist paramedic to the scene. One patient was transported to hospital for further treatment."
