How Newcastle United’s Marc Guehi alternative feels about moving to St James’ Park

Newcastle United are hoping that their third bid for Marc Guehi will be accepted.

The Magpies have already had two offers for the 24-year-old turned down by Crystal Palace, with Newcastle’s second Guehi bid rejected last week.

But now there is a fresh proposal, with Crystal Palace considering Newcastle’s third Guehi offer.

Hopefully it is enough for them to accept, as Toon officials aim to finally sign someone who improves Eddie Howe’s starting XI.

If Crystal Palace say no, it remains to be seen what Newcastle United‘s next move will be. With the clock ticking, the club may decide that it is time to move on and look elsewhere.

However, that could lead to a different problem for Paul Mitchell.

Newcastle’s Marc Guehi alternative

Before Newcastle’s pursuit of Guehi was being played out in public, the Magpies were chasing Malick Thiaw.

The 22-year-old AC Milan defender looked likely to head to Tyneside, so much so that Eddie Howe praised Thiaw in an interview.

Newcastle held talks with Thiaw’s agent, with AC Milan aiming to receive £35million for the Germany international.

However, talk of him arriving at St James’ Park went very quiet once the Guehi rumours emerged. That deal has now taken centre stage, with Guehi keen to sign for Newcastle.

Malick Thiaw wants to stay at AC Milan

And a new report suggests that Thiaw perhaps did not feel the same about joining Eddie Howe’s side.

According to the Daily Mail, Thiaw is ‘reluctant’ to leave AC Milan during this summer’s transfer window, despite interest from Newcastle.

They add that one reason for Thiaw’s desire to stay put is the fact that AC Milan are competing in this season’s Champions League – as they did last season where they faced Newcastle United.

Newcastle under more pressure to land Guehi

Thiaw’s stance perhaps rules him out as an alternative to Guehi. That puts more pressure on the Magpies’ third bid being accepted.

There is also the added complication of Fulham trying to sign Joachim Andersen – Guehi’s centre-back partner at Selhurst Park.

It is difficult to envision Palace selling both of their defensive stars this summer, so it might be a case of needing to rush to get an offer accepted.

There is an offer on the table for Guehi, with Newcastle United eagerly awaiting Crystal Palace’s response.

Newcastle and Guehi will hope it is accepted, as both parties want the deal. That is a contrast to Thiaw, who seemingly has not been as convinced about a move to Tyneside.
