Former Kaizer Chiefs coach gives Motaungs advise regarding Christian Saile's situation - 'An excellent deal would be swapping him with Oswin Appollis'

The Congolese forward is reportedly on the verge of leaving the Glamour Boys as Nabi's teams are pursuing Appollis' signature.

  • Ex-Chiefs coach on what the club should do about Saile
  • The attacker is poised to leave Amakhosi
  • Glamour Boys have been linked with Appollis

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bobby Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs, January 2025.

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Sergio Dos Santos has proposed what the club ought to do concerning striker Christian Saile as Amakhosi are seeking to sign Oswin Appollis in the current transfer window.

The 25-year-old forward has become surplus to requirements at Amakhosi and it has been reported that Nasreddine Nabi's team is keen to release him to free up a foreign player slot.

With the Glamour Boys strongly linked to Polokwane City’s star Appollis, Dos Santos has suggested what he believes the Motaung-owned team should do with Saile.

WHAT WAS SAID

Oswin Appollis Polokwane City

"Like a lot of other guys at Chiefs, Saile seems to like he's going to do something, but somehow they can't get it right, they promise but they don't deliver. Saile he's got so much ability, and he is quick, he can dribble, he can cross, he can shoot, he's got a lot of good qualities, he is a strong player," Santos told KickOff.

"But sometimes during the game, I don't know why he ends up overrunning the ball, he loses position, and he does some funny strange things. The whole Chiefs team every game is different. If he goes to Chippa maybe he will be under less pressure. There's too much pressure at Chiefs and their players can't handle the pressure.

"From what I can see Saile is very good on the left and the right side. But he doesn't do enough to show us what he can do. There are times he does something terrific, come next time he loses the ball, in my opinion, he is not doing the job, so loan him out and wait and see what transpires going forward, that way you can always bring him back to give him another chance," he added.

"Personally I would loan him out, I would never sell him. But an excellent deal would be swapping him with Oswin Appollis. A very good player. He was with me at Ajax Cape Town in the juniors. We brought him when he was 14 years old."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reports surfaced this week indicating that Saile might be moving to Chippa United soon. Amidst those speculations, it is understood that SuperSport United is also eager to secure his signature.

The speedy forward has struggled to find playing time under the Tunisian coach. He has only made six appearances this season so far.

Conversely, Appollis has been a long-term target for Chiefs. Despite Polokwane insisting that Amakhosi haven't inquired about his availability, it is said that he could join the Naturena-based giants before the transfer window closes on January 28.

WHAT NEXT?

Christian Saile, Kaizer Chiefs, January 2025.

It remains to be seen whether Appollis will ultimately join Chiefs as Saile is set to join either Chippa or SuperSport according to the latest reports.

Amakhosi will be preparing for the upcoming PSL match against Sekhukhune United on Sunday, while the Limpopo-based side faces Matsatsantsa on Friday.
