Kai Havertz was on the scoresheet for Arsenal in their 2-0 Champions League win over PSG.
Arsenal made a statement with their 2-0 triumph over PSG at the Emirates Stadium.
Kai Havertz put the Gunners ahead with twenty minutes on the clock, as he timed his run into the PSG box to connect with Leandro Trossard’s cross, heading the ball home beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Havertz was Arsenal’s standout player throughout the match. Beyond netting a decisive goal, he also lead the line expertly, holding up the ball, pressing relentlessly, and offering intelligent movement throughout.
Mikel Arteta will have been delighted with the German’s contribution, who has now cemented himself as the North London club’s first choice striker.
Havertz maintained his home form in this game. With his strike against the French giants, the 25-year-old became the first Arsenal player since 1954 to score in the first five home games of a new season.
The former Chelsea man clearly loves playing at the Emirates Stadium. He has now scored on the Gunners’ own patch in six consecutive home games, across all competitions.
This is a feat that was managed by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2019, and by Emmanuel Adebayor during the 2007/08 campaign.
Meanwhile, if Havertz scores at the Emirates Stadium against Southampton on Saturday then he will match Robin van Persie’s record of netting in seven consecutive games at the Arsenal home ground. The Dutchman set this bar in the 2011/12 season.
For all his talent, up until this stage in his career Havertz has never been the most prolific of forwards.
Against elite level opponents, though, it is vital to be efficient in front of goal. If Arsenal are to go far in the Champions League this season then they cannot afford to be wasteful in front of goal.
Havertz is now showing that he can be reliably clinical in big matches. Arteta will be looking to the 25-year-old to maintain his current form, and will also be hoping that he can find his finishing touch more regularly on the road too.
