Arsenal legend Ian Wright and former Manchester United captain Gary Neville expect different scorelines when the Gunners take on Chelsea this weekend.
Speaking on The Overlap, Neville said that he believes the game at Stamford Bridge will end in a stalemate:
“It will be a draw. I think 1-1.”
Wright, on the other hand, is more optimistic about his former club’s chances of securing the three points, although he is wary about the threat that the opposition pose:
“We need to win. We are usually pretty good at Chelsea. But this Chelsea team has a different swagger. I am going to go 2-1.”
To say it has been a difficult period for the Gunners is an understatement. Since beating Southampton at the Emirates on October 5th, they have picked up just one point from a possible nine.
A home draw against Liverpool has been sandwiched between two away defeats to Bournemouth and Newcastle.
After losing to Inter Milan in the Champions League midweek too, the players won’t be going into the London derby with a great deal of confidence. Manager Mikel Arteta has, though, been pretty bullish about his team’s chances against Chelsea. Whether that is simply bluster or genuine belief, it isn’t known.
Captain Martin Odegaard came on for the final few minutes of the defeat to Inter midweek and there will be plenty of fans calling for him to start on Sunday, despite the fact that he hasn’t played barely any football for two months.
The Norwegian’s creativity has been sorely missed and, even if he can only play an hour at Stamford Bridge, it may be worth taking a risk with his fitness.
