One exit-linked Manchester City player is keen to sort out his future before the end of Euro 2024 this summer.

There are expected to be several incoming and outgoings at the Etihad Stadium in the coming months, as Pep Guardiola seeks to shape his squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.

In the coming weeks, City could win two trophies. But they could also finish the campaign without any silverware at all.

Regardless of the outcome, Txiki Begiristain and his team will work hard to ensure City have a squad packed with quality, ready to go again next term.

One player who the vast majority of fans hope will stay at the club is Bernardo Silva. The Portugal international has been linked with an exit now for the past few summers, but there is a strong feeling this time around that he will be going.

And it has now been reported that he would like a decision made before the end of Euro 2024…

Last summer, Bernardo was strongly linked with an exit from the club but ultimately he stayed.

He then ended up signing a new contract with the club, and that contract is said to included a release clause worth around £50 million, which makes him a bargain for many potential suitors.

Barcelona have long admired Bernardo, and there is a feeling they will come calling for him this summer.

But Barca’s financial issues have been well documented in recent times, and it remains to be seen if they can stump up the cash. It was recently reported that they will see about offering the release clause in installments.

It has also been suggested they want to pay less than the value of his release clause.

Whatever transpires, Bernardo – described previously by Pep as ‘a special footballer’ – does not want it dragging on all summer long.

According to the Mirror, the 29-year-old is keen for his future at City to be resolved by no later than the end of Euro 2024. That tournament concludes on July 14.

Best to get it sorted early, either way

So £300,000-a-week ace Bernardo is keen to sort out his future fairly early – and City officials are probably equally keen.

It is always better to get things in order earlier in the summer, so that a club is not scrambling at the end of the window.

It would be far from ideal if there was no movement with Bernardo, and then a club came in and triggered his clause at the end of the window.

City need to know where they stand with the player one way of the other, and hopefully we will see the club make a decision in mid-July.

Many City fans would love to see him stay, given he’s one of the very best players in the world. Indeed, pundit Charlie Nicholas recently likened Bernardo to the great Andres Iniesta. However, that release clause does cast major doubt on that.
