Sunderland AFC News sources can reveal that a Premier League giant is now the favourite to sign one of the Black Cat’s many stars.

Sunderland have a first-team squad that is the envy of many others in the second tier, put together for very little by sporting director Kristjaan Speakman.

He’s signed names like Jobe Bellingham, Dan Ballard, and Trai Hume for very little, and who are now worth well into the eight-figure sums.

They’re just a few as well. Sunderland also have an academy that has, and still is, producing some top young players who’ve become equally as valuable in the transfer market.

Goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is wanted by Manchester United whilst Sunderland captain Dan Neil has been linked with Liverpool in the past 12 months.

Chris Rigg is the latest to be making a name for himself, and he might just be the pick of the bunch following his impressive start to the season under Regis Le Bris.

Manchester United are the favourites to sign Chris Rigg at Sunderland

Manchester United have been linked with Rigg at Sunderland, with Real Madrid also reportedly keen on the 17-year-old.

But sources tell Sunderland AFC News that Manchester United are ‘favourites’ to sign the young talent right now, despite the club’s recent sacking of Erik ten Hag.

Described to Sunderland AFC News as the ‘real diamond’ of the Championship right now, we’re also told that Sunderland ‘will likely have to’ part ways with Rigg in 2025, even if the club earns promotion from the Championship.

Rigg though is keen to see the club be well compensated for his eventual transfer away from the Stadium of Light, and where he moves to will be his choice.

Manchester United may wait until the summer to make their move for Chris Rigg

Previous reports suggested that Manchester United would move for Rigg in January, eager to get ahead of the competition and sign an exciting homegrown talent.

But following the ten Hag sacking, pundit and former United man Gary Neville thinks Manchester United should wait until next summer to do anymore transfer business.

Neville thinks that the next Red Devils boss should be made to work wit the current first-team for the rest of this season, and then make changes.

That could mean that Manchester United moving for Rigg, or Patterson, may be something that occurs in the next summer transfer window.
