Sunderland welcome Coventry City in the Championship this weekend, in what is a huge game for the Sky Blues.
Coventry City have sacked Mark Robins ahead of their trip to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, in a move that’s gone down very poorly with the supporters.
Robins leaves with Coventry in 17th place of the Championship table following a midweek defeat against Derby County, though the Sky Blues won both games before that.
Now, Coventry City fans are planning action for the game at Sunderland with many set to voice their discontent about Robins’ sacking.
Regis Le Bris meanwhile has his side sitting in 1st place of the table despite back-to-back, goalless draws in the Championship, with Sunderland drawing 0-0 at Preston North End last time out.
Speaking on the Championship Check In podcast ahead of the weekend, EFL pundit Sam Parkin has predicted an exciting clash on Wearside on Saturday.
Referring to Coventry City’s 5-4 win at Sunderland back in 2019, he said: “I think there’ll be goals again. But I think the majority will be for the home side.
“It feels like a 3-2 to me.”
Last season, Coventry City thumped Sunderland 3-0 at the Stadium of Light, drawing the reverse fixture 0-0.
Parkin has now got his last two score predictions for Sunderland correct.
He predicted the exact 0-0 scoreline between QPR and Sunderland last weekend, then predicting a 1-1 draw between Preston and Sunderland, though the game obviously ended 0-0.
Robins leaves Coventry City with an unbeaten record against Sunderland, and the Sky Blues will be hoping that interim coach Rhys Carr can carry on that run.
In eight games against Sunderland as Sky Blues boss, Coventry won four of those, with Sunderland without a win over Coventry since their promotion-winning season in 2007.
Roy Keane was the manager when Sunderland last beat Coventry City. He eventually steered the Black Cats to the Championship title that season and Le Bris currently has the club on course to repeat that feat.
Sheffield United in 2nd are two points behind Sunderland and play rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.
Leeds United meanwhile are now in 3rd and four points behind Sunderland after their midweek defeat against Millwall, with a home game against QPR this weekend.
