The 30-year-old has been with the Cairo giants for three seasons now and his current contract expires in June 2025.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Percy Tau's Al Ahly future has been a subject of speculation for the past year as his contract nears the end.
He has been reported to be a wanted man in Saudi Arabia and a move back to the Premier Soccer League has also been mentioned.
But Wydad Casablanca board member Saad Al-Dreib has opened up on the club's interest in Tau who could be reunited with Rhulani Mokwena, now in charge of the Moroccan giants.
WHAT AL-DREIB SAID
“We are in a phase of renewing Wydad’s squad, and we are looking for experienced players to replace those who have left, like Yahya Jabrane, Ayoub El Amloud, and Yahia Attiyat Allah,” said Al-Dreib on Koora Plus as per Kingfut.
“A player like Percy Tau, among others, is of course someone we are interested in signing.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mokwena might use his relationship with Tau to try and influence the Bafana star to join him in Casablanca.
That would leave Al Ahly with a big decision to make as to whether they should sell to a Caf Champions League rival or not.
For a 30-year-old who has one year left on his contract, the price tag on the former Mamelodi Sundowns stars should not be discouraging for his suitors.
According to Transfermarkt, his current value is R36million.
WHAT NEXT FOR TAU?
Al Ahly have two Egyptian Premier League matches left and the Cairo giants have already wrapped up the race as champions with games to spare.
They have already started doing transfer business for next season and the future of Tau might also be on the table.
