Jürgen Klopp will depart as Liverpool boss later this month

Jürgen Klopp is now just over two weeks away from bringing the curtain down on his Liverpool tenure. It may have been a difficult few weeks but Reds fans will be eager to cherish the final three matches of the Premier League season.

For many, focus is already shifting to the future and the man who will take over. Feyenoord boss Arne Slot's appointment is imminent and he will be tasked with stepping into the shoes of one of the greatest to ever manage Liverpool.

Klopp meanwhile plans on taking a break from football. When he announced his plans to step down back in February, he said he was 'running out of energy' and would take at least a year out from football.

Since then, he has admitted he may never return to the dugout but that has not stopped tentative links to the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich. SportBild also reported he was on the German FA's radar after this summer's Euros, before Julian Nagelsmann was offered a new contract.

There is now speculation in Germany that he is being lined up for a return to Borussia Dortmund. According to The Independent, there is 'talk' around the Bundesliga club about rehiring Klopp as 'head of football' after his sabbatical.

Klopp spent seven seasons in charge of Dortmund, helping the club win back-to-back Bundesliga titles. His side was also beaten in the Champions League final by Bayern Munich in 2013.

Bayern has dominated German football since — prior to Bayer Leverkusen's success this term — with Dortmund's last title win coming under Klopp in 2012. It is claimed there remains a desire to hark back to that era, with several familiar figures being rehired.

Klopp admitted back in 2019 that he was open to returning once he left Liverpool. if Dortmund needed him. In a book, which was serialized by Bild, he said: "As a rescuer in need, if the club really needs my help - why should not I do that?"

Dortmund sits fifth this season and its best hope of qualifying for next season's Champions League looks to be winning this year's competition. Edin Terzic's side takes on Paris Saint-Germain in its semi-final first leg on Wednesday.

Liverpool.com says: Klopp looks likely to stick to his word and take at least a year out from football. The demands of management have clearly caught up with him and a move 'upstairs' may actually suit. He still clearly holds Dortmund in high regard and he may find a call from his former club too much to turn down.
