Manchester City in rush to beat Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to signing – Reasoning behind rapid swoop

Yesterday, Gianluca Di Marzio had reported Manchester City are closing in on a move for Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso.

The report from the journalist suggested that the Citizens were looking to put forward a fee of €60m to €65m for the versatile player and are hoping to test Juve’s resolve through that offer.

TuttoSport have provided more information on the situation today, reporting that Manchester City are indeed looking to formalise their move for the Italy international.

Their intention is to seal the move quickly. That is because there is an increasing risk of Juventus creating an auction for Cambiaso in the summer and that will lead to his price tag increasing, amidst interest from both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

There is also a tactical reason behind the January move from Manchester City, who believe that the 24-year-old suits Pep Guardiola’s playing style perfectly. Due to that, they don’t want to miss the chance to sign him and reinvigorate their season.

If the deal does take off, it is likely to close by the end of next week.

Corriere della Sera, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, have also indicated that Juve would rather sell Cambiaso in the summer because more clubs will be able to afford him then. That is precisely why the Citizens want to sign the player and avoid the race altogether.
