Micah Richards believes one team could trouble Manchester City in the Premier League title run-in.

City took one more step towards potentially retaining their league crown by beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Sunday.

It would have been natural for the Sky Blues players to potentially be intimidated by how Arsenal got over the line against Tottenham Hotspur in their latest 3-2 victory.

But that seemed like it was far from the case for the City cohort, who looked focused on winning at all costs at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest’s desire to survive relegation was evident in their clash against Pep Guardiola’s men as to their credit, they played out of their skin.

But the best teams in any league have a knack for finding a way to win games.

Micah Richards says one team “could trouble Man City” in title run-in

Manchester City showcased they have this quality in abundance as by hook or crook, they managed to beat a Forest side who perhaps have better goalscoring opportunities than them.

According to Sofascore, Nottingham Forest had an xG (Expected Goals) of 1.93 while City’s was 0.87.

Yet, the treble-winners emerged victorious.

Now, four games are standing in the way of Manchester City’s dreams of winning the title.

The Sky Blues have a few days to rest and recuperate before hosting Wolves at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday in their next game.

But a certain fixture feels like a banana skin to Richards.

And that is against Tottenham, as Micah Richards has explained why they could cause Manchester City problems.

“Spurs away. I think that’s the game. They win that game comfortably, they win the league. I think Spurs could trouble Man City”, he said on Sky Sports.

Richards continued, “They have done before, the way they play, how aggressive they are on the press, the transition’s good, got pace on the wings, got pace in behind with Son [Heung-min] but that’s the game I’m looking at if I’m Man City.”

After Roy Keane quizzed Micah Richards whether the Tottenham team that struggled against Arsenal could really give Manchester City a challenge, he replied, “North London Derby, anything can happen. In the second half, I thought Spurs were very good, albeit Arsenal gave them a couple of opportunities. Spurs, on their day, could give Man City problems.”

Hard to disagree with Micah Richards about Spurs

In our view, Micah Richards is bang on the money about the problems Tottenham could cause to this Manchester City side.

Much like Nottingham Forest, Spurs could also be a nightmare for City to face because of their threat on the break, with Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner all being rapid.

This quality that Ange Postecoglou’s side possess is City’s ultimate Achilles heel.

If the game becomes end-to-end, Spurs would have more of a chance to hit the Sky Blues on the counter.

Manchester City have struggled against Tottenham in the past when this has been the case, as Micah Richards pointed out.

As a result, it would be understandable if City supporters were also wary of the potential outcome of that game.
